Doctor of Philosophy (2023, Simon Fraser University)
Master of Pest Management (2023, Simon Fraser University)
State-examinated Chemist and Biologist (2016, Ulm University)
My fascination with chemical ecology ignited while I was studying to become a high school teacher; the ‚invisible‘ scent-based communication of animals captivated me so profoundly that I embarked on a research career. My first project on spider chemical ecology with Prof. Manfred Ayasse at Ulm University solidified this passion and set my new career trajectory. I had the invaluable opportunity to join the lab of Prof. Gerhard and Regine Gries at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, whose mentorship was foundational. In the Gries lab I completed a Master of Pest Management (MPM) and a PhD in Chemical Ecology concurrently.
In October 2023, I returned to Germany to establish my own lab in the position of an Assistant Professor in the Department of General and Systematic Zoology under Prof. Gabriele Uhl at the University of Greifswald.
We study fundamental questions in animal chemical ecology, bridging behavioral ecology with state-of-the-art analytical chemistry. Combining behavioral experiments with metabolomics based on LC-MS/MS and GC-MS, we identify the metabolites that inform animal behavior.
Our work provides foundational insights into how animals communicate and evolve, while translating these discoveries into practical applications for sustainable pest management and conservation.
